PCA Services

In-Home Care for Your Loved One

Many families require additional assistance to care for a loved one with special needs. The process can be complicated at times, but Alpha Care Family Services, Inc. is dedicated to helping families navigate the system to receive the care they need.

Our PCAs work with children and adults with a variety of physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioral challenges. We will pair you or your loved one with a PCA, and provide a custom care plan tailored to your situation. To receive PCA services, individuals must be enrolled in a Minnesota state health care program (Medical Assistance, Alternative Care, Waiver Programs).

What do PCAs do?
The four categories of services that a person can receive assistance in are:
  • Activities of daily living: eating, toileting, grooming, dressing, bathing, transferring, mobility and positioning
  • Health-related functions
  • Instrumental activities of daily living: meal planning and preparation, managing finances, shopping for essential items, performing essential household chores, communication by phone, and participating in the community
  • Redirection and intervention for behavior including observation and monitoring

How Do I Qualify to Receive Services?

To get started, you must request an in-home PCA assessment with a county contractor. The assessment must find that the person needs help to complete at least one of eight activities of daily living or exhibit Level 1 behavior. Learn more about the requirements here.

This includes recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, arranging for backup workers, and firing. The client receiving services does have a say in who their PCA worker is.

You'll be able to create a profile about your needs and interests, search for direct support workers, and connect securely within the site. If you are a direct support worker looking for a person/employer to support, you can also create a profile and do a search.
